FAQ’s

  • At Goat Willow Pottery, a pottery workshop is typically a short-term, hands-on experience where participants focus on a specific pottery technique or project, such as wheel throwing, hand-building, or glazing. Workshops often last a few hours or a day. A pottery class, on the other hand, is usually part of a series of lessons, often running for several weeks, where students receive more comprehensive instruction, including basic skills, techniques, and practice. Pottery classes are designed to help students build a foundation and progress at their own pace.

  • At Goat Willow Pottery, no prior experience is required for most pottery workshops or beginner-level pottery classes. Many workshops and classes are designed for beginners, and instructors will guide you through the process step-by-step. However, if you are joining an intermediate or advanced class, it's a good idea to have some basic knowledge of pottery techniques. Also if you want to try something in particular just let us know.

  • Pottery can get messy, so it’s best to wear old clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty. We will provide aprons. Closed-toed shoes are recommended for safety. Avoid wearing jewellery that could get in the way of the pottery-making process. Long nails can also make things tricky, but we have worked around this in the past, so don’t worry if you’ve just had yours done!

  • Yes, many pottery events at Goat Willow Pottery are open to people of all skill levels, including beginners. These events can range from pottery exhibitions and markets to collaborative pottery sessions or hands-on demonstrations. If you’re looking for a chance to try pottery, some events may also offer beginner-friendly workshops where you can make your own piece with guidance from experienced instructors.
